This works for the Document Librabries, but what about content query web parts, that does not work. Has anyone found a solution to opening documents in new windows across all sites and pages.

    Hi:
I wonder if your solution might be better found in Internet Explorer's "Internet Options". I have IE7, so that's the only reference I have in front of me right now... but try:

-On your browser, select menu choice "Tools"
    -Select Internet Options
    -General tab
    -"Tabs" section (toward the bottom)
    -Select "Settings"
-now you're on the "Tabbed browser settings" popup

-Open links from other programs in:
    -choose 1 or 2
    1. a new window
    2. a new tab in the current window
    3. the current tab or window

Does this help do the same thing across all your sites?

    Hi there,
I just posted a jQuery solution to this problem under this STP question:

    http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/topic/jquery-libraries-and-functions-available-to-all-pages-open-pdfs-in-new-window

Toni's response comfirmed how you can do this site-wide (or at least master.page wide)

I only need it for PDFs in my set up as users have the Office client installed and most other docs open as expected.

I guess you'll have to add extra clauses to the bit where it locates .pdf for the files that you have on your site: (e.g. .xls, .xlsx, .doc, .docx, .txt etc.)

    Cheers
    Ben
