Available for Download: SharePoint Flash Media Library Template

In a previous post on how to embed a video in SharePoint, I mentioned a Flash Media Library template I had configured for working with the screencasts created in Camtasia Studio. I have had several requests for that template, so I am providing it as a free download with this post.

You will need to install the template in your List Templates library in order to make it available to your sites. The screencast below is a very quick walk-through of the template. Please feel free to pass the template around to anyone who needs it.

Regards,
Mark

Thank you Mark! This is perfect for the online training sessions (created in Captivate) we have to present.

  2. Paula – Not a problem. Glad you found it useful. — Mark

Webpart to allow deployment of flash content to MOSS

I am storing flash videos in the flash media library template that you provided. I have some very bug flash files (like 0.5) gb which cannot run on the MOSS site. Thought the small flash files run on site very well. Is there a way we can use streaming and fix this issue. I dont want to put my files on you tube as it might contain company specific details. I was wondering if there is like a small server utility that you can install on server and use it for swf file streaming.

    Thanks.

is it possible to upload an avi video (from a digital camrea on to WSS)

  6. Yes, it’s possible but that doesn’t mean you can, or should, do it. SharePoint is file extension agnostic. You can put any type of file you want into a library. However, your server admin might have an upload limit on file size. Also, if you’re planning on streaming your content, .avi is probably not the best way to go. — Mark

Is it possible to auto archive with WSS? if so please explain. Thanks

Mike – I’m dealing with Adobe Captivate 4 instead of Camtasia but it outputs both the .swf and the .htm when you publish. We normally upload into our corporate LMS but there are occasions when we just want to publish certain videos on our SharePoint. I uploaded the files from one of our lessons that functions normally in the LMS but it only opens the web page with no Flash content when I try to run it from SharePoint. Unfortunately I’ve not had much MOSS training and have fudged my way through things until I find a solution but this one eludes me. Any ideas other than holding my management hostage until they release funds for real training?

  9. Craig – Couple things to check:

    Path to Flash file
    Location of all resources
Object code (.js) for the HTML file to be able to find the .swf/.flv file.

Sorry, I meant Mark. Just got through talking to a Mike before I submitted. A thousand pardons.

Eureka! I’d neglected to upload the SCORM_support folder into the SharePoint. Once I did that it works. This thing is really sweet!

    Hi Mark,
In your post above you say:
“I’m not sure what you mean by embedded. The .swf file is already embedded in the html page that is uploaded from the Camtasia file creation. If you are not using Camtasia, you’ll have to create your own html file for upload.”

I am not using Camtasia buj just want to embedd a flash player on a Sharepoint page to display my own flash move (.flv) which I have now uploaded to the Flash document library. Do you a sample of the html file you refer to above or can you please give more inforamtion as to what code should be included?

    Hi,
We’re having trouble playing a few of our .swf (adobe presenter) files on SP 2007. Sometimes the slide will only play the audio for several seconds (if at all) and no video, and then when it progresses to the next slide, it may or may not repeat the same problem (only audio with no video, or it may play both audio and video correctly). However, if you click off the slide, and then click right back on it, it suddenly plays just fine. Any thoughts on how to fix this?

  15. Donia says:

    Hi Liz:
I had the exact same thing happen with my flash library–turns out that Network Load Balancing wasn’t working correctly between our Web Front End Servers. Once we fixed the NLB issues, flash videos played fine. This was for all flash files, however, not just a few. If only some are playing incorrectly can you analyze one that works and one that doesn’t to find out what the difference is? Maybe they were produced differently.

  16. Mark trying to download the FlashMediaLibrary template but the link keeps timing out. Is there something wron with our servers or is the link dead.I forward it to two other people and still no joy.

Thanks in advance we used it once before for another client demo and they were impressed. We would like to use it again to demo to flas files to another client.

  17. Damian – The downloads are not available yet. I’m still in the process of rebuilding the site after the fiasco with the hosting service earlier this month. I’m planning on having everything available in the first week of January. — Mark

  18. Hey Mark thanks for letting me know i thought there was something wrong with our internet gateway. Damian

Back in December, you were still having problems with the downloads. Do you still have the template? I’d really like to look at it.
