One of the limitations of WSS is the lack of KPI and visual status indicators. In this screencast, I show a technique for displaying status information as a bar graph within any SharePoint list or library.

The lack of Excel Services in WSS makes it difficult to create usable dashboards to help analyze information in a glance. There are alternatives, however, that can be implemented by a site manager or Power User without recourse to third party solutions and web parts.

We just finished a GREAT three hour online session on how to create basic dashboards in WSS and MOSS. I want to use this area to get feedback from the people who participated in the workshop. They’ve got their own SharePoint sandbox to play around with, they’ve got plug and play web parts to check out and a Mind Map with the documentation for all the solutions.

Dashboards in WSS are more difficult to build because of the limitation of the web parts provided as part of the standard implementation. Here is a quick overview of a few things you can do in a matter of minutes to upgrade your site with essential dashboard components that can be created out of the box with SharePoint WSS.

It’s Monday morning and time to start planning for the week. I’ve put up a list of articles that will be published this week, but thought it would be helpful to list the live, online events we are presenting along with a short description.

In the United States, presidential inauguration day is next Tuesday. This is a HUGE event for us, with the changing of the administration. I didn’t take that into consideration when I scheduled the dashboards workshop for next week. I am moving the online SharePoint Dashboards workshop to the following Thursday, January 22, 2009.
