The differing behavior between the browser and SPD makes me nervous ;)

Unfortunately, it appears that web part won't let go of my connection. If I select "remove connection" via the browser, the cross list web part (B above) reveals the full list of entries...but only while the page remains in edit mode. Once I click OK to return to the normal page view, it appears to restablish the web part connection and nullify any list items from appearing in the cross list web part. Very strange.

I've attempted to delete Web Part A with the intent of recreating the connection to Web Part B from scratch. Unfortunately, I deleted Web Part A in SPD. Apparently, the browser didn't get the message and refuses to load the page without the existence of the Web Part A (error message cites "could not find the connection provider for Web Part XXX). It looks like I'll need to start the whole web page from scratch.

I'll let you know how it all turns out. When I recreate the page, I'll use the browser to make the connections.

Thank you again for your insights!
Pat
laura67 on "Web Part Connections to Cross List DVWP's" http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/topic/web-part-connections-to-cross-list-dvwps#post-4977 Mon, 09 Mar 2009 11:05:27 +0000 laura67 4977@http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/
Sometimes this makes a difference:
Try creating the web part connection in the browser instead of in SPD.

Laura Rogers
http://spinsiders.com/laurar
pjcolbeck on "Web Part Connections to Cross List DVWP's" http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/topic/web-part-connections-to-cross-list-dvwps#post-4940 Fri, 06 Mar 2009 13:34:16 +0000 pjcolbeck 4940@http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/
Yes...I used SPD to create the connection.
Yes...I used the Web Part Connections wizard (probably the reason for the limited filter specification).

Thank you for your assistance!
Pat
AutoSponge on "Web Part Connections to Cross List DVWP's" http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/topic/web-part-connections-to-cross-list-dvwps#post-4867 Thu, 05 Mar 2009 00:34:00 +0000 AutoSponge 4867@http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/
Are you using SPD to create the connection?

Did you use the Web Part Connections wizard?
pjcolbeck on "Web Part Connections to Cross List DVWP's" http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/topic/web-part-connections-to-cross-list-dvwps#post-4848 Wed, 04 Mar 2009 13:00:18 +0000 pjcolbeck 4848@http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/
I am attempting to create a series of web part connections featuring Data View Web Parts (DVWP's) based on cross-list data sources. The cross-list DVWP's display fine before making the web part connections, but fail to display the correct data once the web part connections have been established.

Overview:
- Web Part A: Project Portfolio List (Custom List)
- Web Part B: Staffing Model List (Custom List - Cross-Site Data Source)

I would like to use the ProjectID field in Web Part A to filter the items in Web Part B. The creation of the Web Part Connection all goes smoothly and I'm able to associated ProjectID in A with ProjectID in B. The only problem is that the filter returns null data on the live web page. A closer examination of the filter settings for Web Part B reveal that the only filter setting that appears to be active is the 'Content Type' filter used to isolate all of pertinent lists (i.e. cross list data sources) in my site tree. In this light, I would assume that 'all' entries would be returned not zero. The end goal is to return only those entries in Web Part B that have the same ProjectID as the active row in Web Part A. Any suggestions as to what settings I should investigate or any alternative approaches that I should consider?
