5 Minute Screencast: Create a Multimedia Center in SharePoint
There are several ways to Create a Media Center in SharePoint. In this screencast I show the structure of a document library that manages screencast content display, and then use a customized list to access videos stored off the SharePoint server.
All content displayed is transparent to the End User. Screencasts and videos may be stored in different locations within a site collection, even off the SharePoint server for larger video files. The End User has a single interface for access to all the on-demand media resources.
This solution is part of the Create a SharePoint Multimedia Center live online workshop. Please register for the announcement list for when we will be delivering the next workshop. No obligation. We’ll just send you a notice the next time we’re going to run the workshop.

This is great, good layout to use! You mentioned the code from Christoph H? for turning HTML text into HTML code to display image in place of the text web part. I have not seen that code or web part. Could you direct me to where that code is or what webinar or screencast holds that information? Search on the site, but did not find on first go around. Thanks
Cyndy – I’m sure Christophe will jump in here any second, but here’s the link to his site to get you started: http://pathtosharepoint.wordpress.com/
Plan on spending some time there… great resource.

Thanks so much, I had actually drill down through the serach to find the page just as I heard my email ding a delivery. Thanks so much – and you are right will be spending some time at both sites! Great info and help!
This is a great video for showing what can be done with SharePoint to create a media center and could spark ideas to use the same techniques for other things. As always, you have shown ways to address common issues and needs.
However, the video does make a few assumptions on the part of the viewer that make it beyond an End User skill level.
The biggest assumption is that the viewer will understand the references to other products, such as Lytebox. While a web designer, developer or architect will most certainly be able to implement such technologies, it may be well beyond the End User.
And while it was readily apparent to me that the initial page view was built with a DVWP, it was not referenced as such in the video so might leave the End User with further questions.
And lastly, you mention in the video that the Company Videos reside outside SharePoint, but do not go into where they actually reside, nor do we see the code differences necessary to render them through SharePoint.
I know you can’t address everything in a short screen cast, nor should you. However, this would, perhaps, be better rated as a more advanced topic rather than General Interest due to the skillset and background necessary to understand and implement this fabulous solution.
Thank you, again, for your time and efforts. I know I value them.
Kevin,
> while it was readily apparent to me that the initial page view was built with a DVWP…
I’m smiling at that one… nope, out of the box web part using calculated columns :-)
A lot of the topics you mention are covered in the workshop that implements this solution. The purpose of the demo is to give people ideas that they might not have thought of, and have them be part of the “discovery” process on what can be done out of the box.
Thanks for the input.

This inspired me to create a media library that is a bit easier for an end user to maintain by only having to upload the videos to a document library in a SharePoint site.
I’ve posted my experience at http://www.sharepointkevin.com
Great demo and thank you! Can you tell me the name of the mapping software you used in this demo. I love that and need for some Sharepoint data modeling…
