Stump the Panel: SharePoint Q&A

Hello all, I hope someone can help me.

I used SPD (2007) to create a DVWP then added a asp.net textbox and set the DVWP to filter based on that text box (pretty easy!)... but now I need to put this into production, but I do not want to customize a page in order to do so. Exporting the DVWP and using that is simple enough but how can I put the asp.net controls in a web part and have the DVWP filter by it still. Any thoughts? It sounds simple but I just can't figure it out!

You won't be able to if you have strict governance policies like that. You'll need to work with a developer to take the idea and package it into a feature/WSP that the server admins can upload and deploy to the server.

I've went around doing this by manually creating a blank ASPX page, adding all of my tables, DVWP's, ASP.NET DDL's, and the last thing I did was add the masterpage to it.

Is this still considered a customized page? In SPD, I don't see a blue icon next to the page, but I would like some clarification myself.

To me, it sounded like it was a governance issue and he wasn't allowed. If it's all wrapped in a feature he'd be golden. Even if the blue icon isn't visable in that case, I think it'd still be a customized page as it was not created through the Sharepoint UI in the browser and would reside on the file system, which I would interpret as customized.
