Hello,

I am bewildered, befuddled, bemused, bamboozled, bedazzled (rhinestones sold separately) at Microsoft. All I am looking for is a way to insert a hit counter on the homepages of SP sites. I know OOTB SharePoint reporting tracks this, but there is no way I know of to insert that information into a webpart. I also know Quest Admin reporting tracks this, but again there is no way I know of to insert that information into a webpart. Apparently there was a way to create one via SharePoint Designer 2007, but I am not able to find it in SharePoint Designer 2010.

Why does Microsoft have to make things so difficult sometimes? Can anyone give me a hand with understanding how to build a page hit counter in SharePoint Server 2010 (Enterprise)?

Thanks,
Areon

Is it contained in the site data web service perhaps? Hit counters are so 1990s web :-/. Metrics and Analytics are where it's at.

Thanks Eric for your reply. I guess this means I should upgrade my software from Windows 98 too, huh? :)

OK, so metrics and analytics are good and all...but that is in the behind the scenes, if you will, in Site Settings for those with full control of the site. How do I pull some of that data into a webpart to be displayed within a site page? There are not any web parts that I know of that will do that. Maybe I am still stuck in the 90's, but I want to be able to demonstrate to the end-users some of that data.

Thanks..going to go watch "Friends" and "Seinfeld" now. :)

All of the site's analytics for 2010 is stored in it's own database. I haven't looked deeply at the info contained within that database, but if it tracked page views, you could create a DVWP that consumed that information.
