SharePoint Job Listings: Interesting…

Yes, I know. That's the joke...I opened up my email this morning and had over 30 job listings coming in from LinkedIn. Holy Smokes! Is the job market really that desperate for SharePoint people?

Here’s the list. Take a look and see what’s there. I haven’t drilled down to see how many are just recruiters kicking tires, but with this number of positions being listed, something’s up.

    Very interesting, Mark.

What are “we”? I don’t think we are Developers – gotta know C#, some of us may be Architects – but what does that mean? I say I am a SharePoint consultant but that’s wooly too.

There are no roles in that list for “getting the most from an out of the box SharePoint deployment” which is probably what most people visiting this site are trying to do every day.

Until the value of that role is understood in businesses (and I think it is hugely overlooked) we’ll have to do a lot of convincing that we are as desirable (and marketable) as ‘Developers’ and ‘Architects’!

    Keep up the good work,
    Ben

  2. David Cavins says:

In April I was looking for a job and in the process I discovered a lot of these companies say they need a developer but its only because they don’t know how to customize OOTB sharepoint webparts and lists. I got hired on in a ‘developer’ role but I only know a very little C#. You just have to sell yourself and make sure they understand much of what they want can be done without custom code and the complexities / issues it introduces.

That is my role, and I was lucky enough to be able to essentially create it at my company. However, I agree that I have yet to see an ad that describes the work I do every day.
